Airport Shares Tips for Smooth Travels Ahead of Bustling Independence Day Weekend
RENO, Nev. (June 26, 2024) – The Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) saw its highest passenger counts so far this year with over 9,000 departing travelers on June 23. Now, RNO is preparing for similar projections leading up to the Independence Day weekend, anticipating nearly 18,000 total passengers on peak travel days. The busiest days ahead for RNO will be June 27, 28, 30 and July 7. This surge in traffic, representing an almost 15% increase compared to the same period last year, surpasses typical major holiday travel volumes like Christmas and Thanksgiving. These volumes mirror record-breaking air travel days across the nation, as reported by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
To ensure a smooth travel experience during this busy period, follow these tips:
- Arrive at least two hours before your departure time.
- Parking is nearing capacity. Use the real-time parking availability tool and real-time flight status updates at renoairport.com to make informed decisions.
- Some traffic patterns have changed, so drive slowly and follow construction and overflow lot signage.
- Consider dropping off travelers curbside before parking in the overflow lots, especially for those with mobility restrictions or with multiple bags.
- Contact your airline’s wheelchair assistance number in advance, if needed.
- The rental car drop-off entrance has changed, allow extra time for rental car returns and follow signage.
- Wait for passengers in the Free Waiting Lot just minutes from the airport. Parking along the curb is for quick loading and unloading only.
- Carry-on bags must still adhere to TSA’s guidelines, so leave the fireworks at home and follow the 3-1-1 liquids rule.
